We'll mainly provide information useful for people who will arrive at Narita Airport (NRT) [www.narita-airport.jp] and directly move to Chofu.

• Chofu: Station, Chofu Creston Hotel, and UEC

  Chofu station has North Exit and South Exit.
  Use North Exit for Chofu Creston Hotel (banquet venue) and UEC (conference venue).
  When you come out of North Exit, look up and arround; you'll find the "PARCO" building (1-minute walk from the station).
  Chofu Creston Hotel is on the 8th to 10th floors of the PARCO building.
  The hotel reception is on the 8th floor.
  Airport Limousince Bus arrives at the North Exit of Chofu station.

  UEC campus is about 10-minute walk from the North Exit of Cofu station: Directions to UEC.

  The conference will be held at the 3rd floor of the Communication Park Building of UEC, bldg#21 in the campus map.

  After the main entrance of UEC (close to bldg#2 of the map), follow the main road and it'll be on your left.
  Chofu Creston Hotel/Cofu station to the main entrance of UEC is about 5-minute walk; the main entrance to the main library is another 5-minute walk.
  The banquet will be held at Chofu Creston Hotel.

  This is a relatively small hotel; they provide wireless LAN connection free-of-charge; no swimminig pool or athletic facility.

• Transportation to Chofu from Narita: Two major routes
  1. Airport Limousine Bus [www.limousinebus.co.jp]:

     There is a direct Narita-->Chofu service (among about 20 routes served).

     Time-table as of Sep. 2006 (applies to weekdays and weekends):

     Narita departure time for Chofu:
     0740, 0920, 1050, 1440, 1620, 1720, 1850, 2115

     Chofu departure time for Narita:
     0530, 0630, 0730, 1110, 1250, 1410, 1750, 1950

     For Chofu--> Narita travel, reservation is required; call or ask the hotel to call 03-5376-2222, Keio Bus Reservation Center. (Reservation is *not* necessary/possible for Narita--> Chofu.)

     The one-way fare is 3,200JPY; the travel time is about 2 hours.

  2. Train:

     Narita--> Shinjuku By JR Narita Express [www.jreast.co.jp]
     (Narita Express, usually 12-coach trains, split at Tokyo station: the front 6(?)coaches go on to Shibuya, Shinjuku etc, and the rest go on to Shinagawa and Yokohama; this should be well indicated.)

     4-minute walk from JR Shinjuku station to Keio Shinjuku station, and

     Shinjuku--> Chofu By Keio Line [www.keio.co.jp].

     The total travel time is about 2 hours.

  3. Which route to choose?

     Direct Airport Limousine Bus service is probably the easiest way to get to Chofu from Narita; the only possible problem is the fact that the service is not so frequent.

     As for the train travel: Getting on the Narita Express and arriving at JR Shinjuku station should be an easy part. Shinjuku is the busiest station in Japan; although a 4-minute walk from JR Shinjuku station to Keio Shinjuku station should be easy with all the signs at off-peak hours, the travel may be exhausting at morning and evening peak hours.
     Once you get to Keio Shinjuku station:
     All the trains go west, and all of them stop at Chofu.
     On fastest express trains (usually with red signs), Chofu is the 2nd stop (takes about 15-minutes).
     The train travel may again be nontrivial during evening peak hours; at such time, you might want to look around and settle on a slower but less crowed train.

     As for your Chofu-->Narita travel: By your departure date, you may have get used to things a bit; using Keio line and changing trains at Shinjuku may no longer be a problem provided that you do not have to travel during morning peak hours, ie. you do not leave Chofu station during 7 am to 9 am.
     Again, direct Airport Limousine Bus service is probably the easiest way.

  4. Taxi

     Chofu is about 13km west of Shinjuku.
     Shinjuku-Chofu taxi ride will probably be around 8,000JPY.

     Narita-Chofu by taxi will cost a bit over 20,000JPY.
     Narita-Tokyo city center by taxi will cost around 19,000JPY.
     (Narita is far from Tokyo city center...)

  5. Narita--> Hotels in Tokyo City Center

     For some of you, an immediate destination after Narita arrival is not Chofu, and rather some hotel in Tokyo City Center, say, Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku.

     The easiest way is to use Airport Limousine Bus service for Narita--> Shinjuku Area Hotels.

     Time-table for Keio Plaza Hotel + Century Hyatt Hotel looks like (Narita departure time):
     ..., 1400, 1445, 1505, 1525, 1545, 1605, 1635, 1700, ...

     Only the major hotels are covered by Airport Limousine Bus.
